Remote desktop connection allows you to connect two computer over a network. Even though you are far away from your computer you will be to connect to your computer. The only thing is the other computer should be on. Remember you can use any edition of Windows 7 to connect to the other computer, but you can only set up setting for Remote desktop and connect to Windows 7 ultimate, Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise Edition.
Before you start Remote desktop you need to make sure that Remote desktop in not blocked by Windows Firewall.
How to allow Remote desktop through Windows Firewall?
Click on “Start” button.
Type “Windows Firewall” in the search box.
Click on “Allow a program through Windows Firewall“.
Click on “Change settings“.
Click on “Browse” button.
Now Go to”C:\Windows\System32\mstsc” or the drive where your Windows is installed.
Click on “Add” button. You will see “Remote Desktop Connection” on the list. Click on the check-box before “Home/Work(Private)” or “Public” as per needed.
Click on “OK” button.
Now you have to enable Remote desktop through Windows Firewall.
You need to make sure that you have enabled Remote Desktop on the PC to which you want to connect.
Right click on “My Computer” icon on the desktop and click on “Properties“.
Click on “Remote settings“.
Select the check-box “Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer“.
Under “Remote Desktop“, select “Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication” for more secure connection.”
Click on “Apply” and then on “OK“.
Finally the last step is to connect to the desktop Remotely.
Click on “Start” and then type “Remote Desktop connection“.
Now click on “Remote desktop connection” on the top. Now enter the name of the computer to which you want to connect. In my case the computer I want to connect is “Kundandamak“.
Now click on “Connect” button.
You need to enter the password for the username of the computer to which you want to connect. Once you get the password enter it and then click on “OK” button.
Now you will be connected to the Remote computer.
The computer on the other side will be automatically locked.
This is how you can setup Remote Desktop connection and connect to the remote computer.
